PRAYER-SWEETNESS
Prayer is the
soul's colloquy with God, and secret prayer is a conference with God upon
admission into the private chamber of heaven. When you have shut your own
closet, when God and your soul are alone, with this key you open the chambers
of paradise and enter the closet of divine love.
Did any of
you, parents, ever hear your child wake from sleep with some panic fear and
shriek the mother’s name through the darkness? Was not that a more powerful
appeal than all words? And, depend upon it, that the soul which cries aloud on
God, “the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,” though it have “no language but a cry,” will never call in vain.
Alexander MacLaren
Ah! How
often, Christians, hath God kissed you at the beginning of prayer, and spoken
peace to you in the midst of prayer, and filled you with joy and assurance upon
the close of prayer!

The best and
sweetest flowers of Paradise God gives to His people
when they are upon their knees. Prayer is the gate of heaven, a key to let us
in to Paradise.

A praying man
can never be very miserable, whatever his condition be, for he has the ear of
God; the Spirit within to indite, a Friend in heaven
to present, and God Himself to receive his desires as a Father. It is a mercy to pray, even though I never
receive the mercy prayed for.

O let the
place of secret prayer become to me the most beloved spot on earth.

What can be
more excellent than prayer; what is more profitable to our life; what sweeter
to our souls; what more sublime, in the course of our whole life, than the
practice of prayer!
Augustine
Communion
with God makes bitter things – sweet; and massive things – light.
